*PERSONAL LETTER
Personal Letter is a type of letter which provides communication between a small number of people, usually two. There are many types of personal letters and they are written for a wide variety of reasons:
  • One person wishes to attain information from an individual or a business.
  • One person wishes to tell somebody about themselves, as in pen pals.
  • One person wishes to present to an individual or a business a social note, such as a thank-you or a congratulation.
  • One person wishes to communicate with an acquaintance - friend or family, for example in order to maintain and reinforce the bond between them.
We send a personal letter to people who have a close relationship with us.
Examples :

Singapore,Oct 16 2012

Dear Rendy,
We’re having a great time here at Sequa Park. I see a lot of deer and there are not many people here. Yesterday we hiked all day, then swam in the river next to our campsite. Tomorrow we plan to rent a boat to have a cruise.
I have got close friends here. Some of them are Jeani, Bob and Winda. They always accompanied me to visit some interesting places.
I will come back to Jakarta on November 1st.

Love,

Mary

This is the structure/elements in personal letter :

1. GREETING

Greeting

Greeting is an act of communication for the people that we already know or when we just meet a new person. Greeting can be express by our sentences (direct)  while smiling, shaking hand, etc. Greetings are often, but not always, used just prior to a conversation.

For example :
Axel : Hi,Tommy. Good morning.
Tommy :  Hello Axel, good morning.

Greeting Someone
Responding

Good morning too
How are you / How’s life ?
I’m well / I’m fine

When meeting someone formally for the first time, we shake their hand and say "How do you do?" or "Pleased to meet you."
"How do you do?" isn't really a question, it just means "Hello".

High 5 When young people meet informally they sometimes say "Give me five!" and slap their hands together (high five). Generally we do not shake hands with people we know well.
